Mobile Healthcare Blog | IQPlatform Delivers Best in Class Performance and Reliability to the Healthcare Industry
Implementing a successful enterprise-class mobile solution is a significant challenge as many healthcare organizations and mobile solutions providers have discovered the hard way. IQMax’s IQPlatform distinguishes itself from all other HIT mobile solution providers through its unparalleled design advantages.
While many vendors and healthcare organizations alike have opted for the simpler wireless-browser approach to hand-held solutions, this approach introduces numerous usability and interoperability limitations that cannot be overcome. These issues include the following: battery life reduction due to wireless use, lack of availability of data outside the wireless coverage areas, lack of cross-application context, applications requiring use of specific device functionality, poor data exchange, limited device support and substandard overall performance
IQMax has designed, built and delivered the leading mobile platform. IQPlatform facilitates the interaction of health information between systems and mobile caregivers in virtually real-time. It enables caregivers to retrieve critical information at the point of care resulting in improved quality of care delivered more efficiently and effectively. IQMax’s IQPlatform delivers mission-critical enterprise performance across the healthcare continuum enabling users to connect between acute, ambulatory care facilities and everywhere in between.
IQMax offers two distinct models to serve both the acute and ambulatory care environments. IQEnterprise is a premise-based system that allows the customer to host the entire IQPlatform and applications on-site. This model allows mid to large facilities or integrated delivery networks to act as an application service provider (ASP) and to host the IQMax applications for its network of providers. IQAnywhere is hosted at a state-of-the-art center and provides small to mid-sized clients with the ability to have IQMax applications available to them via an ASP model. IQEnterprise and IQAnywhere, built on IQPlatform, can be remotely deployed in as little as 10 days.
Secure Digital Cards – Never Loose Data or Applications Again!
Unique to IQMax is its use of multimedia cards (MMC or SD cards), which allow for unlimited data storage capacity,, significantly enhancing the reliability of PDA devices. This capability provides mission-critical data protection and security. It also provides an automatic application recovery capability in the event of a device failure, a key component of a reliable, scalable, and deployable platform. The ability to prevent loss of information is critical in healthcare and is exclusively offered by IQMax.
Hybrid Distributed Synchronization
A key advantage to either synchronization approach is a reliable, high throughput transfer of data which results in fast, consistent syncs for the end users. IQMax’s IQSpeak dictation product creates upwards of sixty megabytes (60MB) of data in the form of voice files. Transmitting this amount of data through slower conduits such as infrared and dedicated cradle syncs does not meet the demanding performance requirements of physicians and results in poor synchronization performance.
The IQExchange sync engine is a two-way communication pipeline which virtually tethers a user to the latest information on a patient. Using the sync engine offers physicians, wherever located the ability to automatically and continuously sync patient data between the hospital and clinic environments. Specifically, this allows physicians to retrieve, move, use and interact with updated information to render the best patient care regardless of location. Data for all applications may be synchronized during a single operation instead of requiring synchronization operations for each application. The IQExchange sync engine is a hybrid “push/pull” sync methodology called SmartSync.. In the “push” mode, SmartSync is intelligent and can anticipate based on previous sync patterns, where the likely sync location will occur and will push over the latest information and updates in anticipation of a sync occurring. It also will “pull” any recently updated information from the server during synchronization providing fast sync times.
Unlike other mobile solutions that require direct back-end data server access during synchronization, IQMax’s distributed sync model transfers the data to a local non- dedicated workstation ensuring availability and fast performance. Once the transfer of data has completed, the user is back to productive use of their device. The workstation handles the “heavy lifting” of the large data files to the back-end server. This allows our solution to have less costly back-end server hardware. An additional benefit to this design includes the support for concurrent syncs. Literally hundreds of users can sync simultaneously without any performance degradation ensuring consistent, fast performances for all mobile users.
Data Exchange is the Key
A care provider’s daily work flow is typically oriented around their patient schedule, whether their hospital’s census list or their clinic’s patients. IQMax’s solutions start with a complete, accurate patient list which can be viewed according to the provider’s work flow. For example, a census list can be sorted by location/room number to better accommodate a rounding workflow. In a clinic, sorts can be done, for example, by time of the scheduled appointment. Further sorting is provided by physical location and by procedure. IQMax further enhances workflow by providing shared patient lists common when physicians are covering for their group and when nursing practitioners and physician assistants are responsible for specific physician’s patients.
Patient lists are created through interfaces to patient scheduling and hospital ADT systems so the views are accurately representative of the provider’s daily patient load. IQMax has currently interfaced with over 40 unique hospital information and patient scheduling systems, some of which include various systems from McKesson, Cerner, Siemens, Epic, IDX, Mysis, NextGen, Emdeon, and many more.
Accurately presenting the patient lists is only the beginning. Whether the user is dictating with IQSpeak, capturing charges with IQCharge or reviewing clinical results with IQRounds, an exchange of data very often must occur with multiple back-end host systems and with foreign systems outside of the hospital or clinic. IQMax’s extensive interface capabilities result in integrated mobile applications that enhance productivity while assisting in the improvement of patient care and safety.
